Neuroaxonal dystrophy (NAD) in Miniature American Shepherd

Neuroaxonal dystrophy in the Miniature American Shepherd is a neurodegenerative disease of the central and peripheral nervous system. The clinical presentation of affected dogs includes gait disturbance (ataxia), worn claws, and/or stiff hindquarters. The disease appears in adulthood and is characterised by progressive deterioration. Our research led to the development of a diagnostic test that could be used to reduce the incidence of this condition in the Miniature American Shepherd.
