Color dilution alopecia (CDA) can occur in dogs with dilute coat color and leads to hair loss. Other terms for CDA are black hair follicular dysplasia (BHFD) and Blue Doberman Syndrome. In severe cases there may be generalized skin infections in addition to the hair loss, which will require antibiotic treatment. CDA occurs only in dogs with dilute coat color, but not not all dilute colored dogs will become affected by CDA. We hypothesize that there are additional possibly breed-specific genetic risk factors that are responsible for CDA. We would like to further characterize these additional genetic risk factors for CDA. We therefore ask for the submission of samples from dogs with dilute coat color, which are either clearly affected by CDA or which have a normal hair coat.
